Short to medium erect plant, hairless, slightly mealy. Leaves oval-heart shaped to triangular with a few large, angular teeth. Flower clusters lax, leafless and scattered.

Disturbed ground, arable land, rubbish tips, waste places, farmyards and manure heaps.

Flowers July to October.

Annual.

Occasional in England south of the Humber.

Scarce in Leicestershire and Rutland, but increasing; probably under-recorded in the past.

In the Flora of Leicestershire (Primavesi and Evans 1988) it was found in 2 of the 617 tetrads, and in the Flora of Rutland (Messenger 1971) in 11 tetrads.

In the VC55 checklist (Jeeves 2011) it is listed as Alien; Archaeophyte, and Rare.

It is listed on the current VC55 Rare Plant Register (Hall and Woodward 2022) as Locally Scarce (i.e. present in 4-10 sites)
