Length 5 mm.  A distinctive genus comprising three rather parallel-sided grey-green species, characterised by a dense covering of coarse, dark hairs on the forewings and a striking wing membrane pattern. The tibial spines are fine and inconspicuous. In M. solitarius the 1st antennal segment is pale green and the wing membrane lacks a dark spot, as in M. horvathi.

On Hedge Woundwort, particularly where it grows at woodland edges.

Adult: June-August.

Found locally across much of England and Wales.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
