Wingspan 29-34 mm. This moth resembles the Lesser-spotted Pinion but has generally broader forewings and paler hindwings.

Hedgerows, woodlands, parks and sometimes gardens.

It flies in July and August and is attracted to light, as well as sugar.

The larvae feed on Elm as well as a number of other bushes and trees.

Distributed mainly in southern Britain south of Yorkshire. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as local.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
