Wingspan 20-26 mm. A distinctive and very attractive species.

Shows a preference for Scots Pine woodland.

It flies from dusk onwards between June and August, and is attracted to light.

Larva feeds on Scots Pine.

Mainly recorded in the southern half of Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common. 

Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
