Description
Length 3 to 4 mm. A distinctively marked Barkfly. The wings have four partially connected dark bands and numerous small spots.
Habitat
Often on tree trunks.
When to see it
March to August.
Life History
Feeds on micro-mosses, lichens and fungi.
UK Status
Occasional but widespread in Britain. It may be increasing in numbers.

Occasional or little recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
