Length 11 to 17 mm. A very pale species, often with a greasy appearance. Forewings narrow with an almost straight front edge and sharply truncated at the tip.

Margins of small ponds and pools (even temporary ones).

May to July and August to November with a summer diapause.

Breeds mainly in small ponds, the larva making a case of various materials arranged in a criss-cross fashion.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain except in upland Scotland.
