A medium to large-sized Mycena, very variable in colour from pale lilac-pink to pinkish-grey, violet-grey and dark violet; may alo be yellowish, white or bluish.   Gills and stipe also whitish to pale pink/lilac.  The stipe is cylindrical and may be wider below, but is not club-shaped. Smell is radish-like. 

Pinkish forms can be very similar to Mycena rosea, but is often less robust and less uniform in colour.  M rosea stipe is clavate (gradully widens towards the base).

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
