The genus Lecania is named after the bowl-like shape of the apothecia. A crust forming granular lichen. The thallus is typically thin supporting small apothecia (0.5mm) that are buff to black and becoming convex.

Various habitats including rocks and concrete.

All year round.

Widespread and quite common in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
