The body length of Amphorophora idaei apterae is 2.7 to 4.1 mm.  The apterae are usually greenish white or pale yellow. The alate Amphorophora idaei) is of similar size but has a brown head and thorax, and has the distal half of the siphunculi darkened.

Amphorophora rubi is darker green and feeds on blackberry - never on Raspberry.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required and the record should state the host plant.

On the underside of the leaves of raspberry bushes.  This species only feeds on Raspberry (never on Blackberry)

The large raspberry aphid has a sexual stage in its life cycle and does not host alternate. It feeds on the underside of leaves of raspberry (Rubus idaei).

True status in Britain is difficult to determine due to lack of records.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
