The apterae of Aphis hederae are dark greenish. The antennae are mostly pale, only darkened from the middle of segment 5 to the apex. The alate has strong transverse dark bands on most tergites. (see link below for further information)

Aphis hederae feeds on Ivy (Hedera helix) living on the young shoots and foliage.

Spring to autumn.

The ivy aphid does not host alternate. Sexual forms occur in autumn with apterous or alate males. Eggs laid in autumn hatch in spring.

True status in Britain is difficult to determine due to lack of records.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
