I. × altaclerensis is a variable hybrid forming anything from medium or large evergreen shrubs to small or medium-sized trees up to around 15m in height. Leaves are usually glossy and with few, if any, spines. It produces masses of small, white, inconspicuous blossoms which may be followed by orange to red berries on female plants.

Usually found as an escape from cultivation and often close to habitation.
