One of many similar brown lacewings. Detailed examination is necessary to arrive at a safe id.
Identification difficulty
ID checklist (your specimen should have all of these features)
- top of thorax with broad pale stripe (paler than sides)
- basal cross-vein (Sc to R) only darkened at the end, or all pale
- lacks clear dark smudges on the edge of the forewing
Habitat
Various habitats but often associated with deciduous trees, and sometimes attracted to light.
When to see it
Summer and autumn.
UK Status
Widespread and quite common in Britain.
VC55 Status
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 23 validated records for this species according to the 'Checklist of Neuroptera and allies in VC55' published in 2018.
