Hawthorn Button-top Gall - Dasineura crataegi
Description
The gall midge Dasineura crataegi causes galls to form on the tips of hawthorn shoots. The galls are seen more often than the midge. The midge causes the terminal shoot to be stunted and distorted into an irregular bunch of many slightly thickened deformed leaves with small red or green projections. It contains many orange-red larvae.
