A small (2.2 to 3.0 mm) rove beetle which is orange-brown or red in colour.

Peak seems to be May and June but has been recorded as late as September.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain but occasional and rather local.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
