A dark pinkish brown fungus, the gills and stem are also brown and the stem base is slightly hairy.

Widespread in England and Wales but not particularly common.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland.

According to Kibby (2020), this is "doubtfully British, but uncertain due to confusion with G obscuroides [found] in woodchip mulch. G obscuroides is quite common and in Britain [and is ] probably an introduced species."  We have retained these records as they have been verified by an expert as G fuscopurpureus.
