Wingspan 40 to 50 mm. The marbled greenish ground colour of the adults affords excellent camouflage when resting on moss- or lichen-covered trees and fences.

Deciduous woodland

The adults fly in June and July and are occasionally attracted to light.

The caterpillars feed on a number of plants, including Bilberry Honeysuckle and Knotgrass.

More common in Wales and the southern half of England. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R). Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant.)
