Description
A big black and slightly lustrous dung beetle.
Similar Species
Very similar to Geotrupes stercorarius but in Geotrupes spiniger the outer edge of the mandible has a distinct lobe.

Habitat
In pastures grazed by herbivores.
When to see it
May to October.
Life History
The larvae live in the dung of herbivores.
UK Status
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
VC55 Status
Occasional in Leicestershire & Rutland. There were a total of 11 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
