The cap is initially convex, then flattened or slightly depressed in the centre; with a shining white covering over a pale buff cap.  The cap tends to crack and the cap develop yellow-brownish spots as it ages. Gills white or cream, spore-print pinkish-clay.

This can be a difficult species to identify and we recommend that it is identified from a specimen by an expert before submission to NatureSpot.  Also photograph from top down, in side view and from underneath to show gills and full length of stipe.  Note habitat and substrate.

Autumn

Grows in groups or dense clusters.

Widespread but not particularly common in Britain, fewer records from Scotland.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
