Wingspan 23 to 28 mm.

The moths are on the wing from May to August, and can be attracted to light.

The larval foodplant is wormwood, the larvae feeding internally in the roots.

A species which until fairly recently was found only scarcely in the southern half of England and Wales, but has now extended its range and is occasionally found northwards into Yorkshire. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as Nationally Scarce B.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
