An orange-yellow sawfly, the female measuring 6 or 7 mm. The larva is green with a yellow-brown head and feeds on Beech.

Flight period is May to June and July to August.

Larvae feed along the edge of Beech leaves.

Widespread in England, but not well recorded. Recorded also in Scotland and Wales.

Seems to be rare or rarely recorded in VC55 (Leicestershire and Rutland) - the record from Burbage Wood on 6th June 2024 is believed to be the first for our area.
