Wingspan 16 to 27 mm.  Distinguished by a row of white-edged black spots along the outer edge of the forewing.

Very rare in our area - records must be supported by a clear photograph.

A migrant species, which may sometimes be imported with grain products.

It occurs most often in early spring and late autumn,

On the continent the larvae feed on grain products.

An infrequnt migrant species, occurring mainly on the southern coasts.  In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as a migrant.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland.  The Harby record of 6th September 2024 was the first for our area (VC55).
