Medium/large (6-7.7mm) ground bug with reddish-brown forewings and a pair of semi-circular white spots on the membrane. E. fenestratus has one large and several smaller spines on the front femora. The stout hairs on the hind tibiae are roughly equal to the tibial width (shorter in E. abietus).

Can be identified with care but there are similar species that it could be confused with.

Vegetation and leaf litter.

All year round. 

Historically known only from the Chilterns, this species was thought to be extinct before reappearing in the London area in 2010, probably the result of horticultural introduction from the continent.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland.
