Small (1.5 to 2 mm) with variable dark spots on forewings. Males always have wings longer than abdomen (macropterous) but females occur in both long and short-winged (brachypterous) forms. Whilst E. petersi often has darker spots on the wing margins this isn't a reliable feature and the best way to distinguish the two species is by checking the male genitalia.

Found on very wide range of trees, shrubs and various other microhabitats.

All year round.

Widespread and common in Britain.

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
