A large annualclustered bracket with smaller caps arising form a common stem.  Caps are soft, spongy and fleshy, rusty brown and felted, with a bright yellow margin when actively growing.  The caps harden as they mature specimens, with a darker central zone.  Pores are labyrinthine, grey-green and coarse at 1 -  2 per mm.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
