A tall or rather spreading tree. 

Identification of Elm to species level is very difficult and sometimes not possible from photographs.  Any record not confirmed by one of our VC55 County Recorders for Flora should be added as Ulmus agg.

Hedgerows and field-borders, but rarely in woodland.  Limited in its natural range to those of its U. plotii parent. This hybrid suckers quite freely and is sometimes a constituent of managed hedgerows.

In leaf in summer to late autumn.

Deciduous.

The native distribution in Britain has been totally obscured by planting, but probably most frequent in the Midlands and East Anglia.

Its current status and distribution in Leicestershire and Rutland is uncertain due to difficulty of identification.
