This plant has strap-shaped leaves with silvery central veins. Erect stems to 45cm bear one-sided racemes of up to 15 nodding, bell-shaped white flowers 3cm in width, with a green stripe on the outside of each tepal.

Often grown in gardens and sometimes escaping and becoming naturalised, at least for a while.

Flowers in April and May.

Perennial.

Widespread but localised in Britain with most records coming from East Anglia and the Welsh borders.

Rare or rarely recorded in the wild in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
