Length 3 to 4.5 mm.  A distinctive leafhopper with short wings that have greenish metallic highlights.  There are three large black spots at the tip of the vertex.  Females have long projecting gonoplacs (part of the ovipositor).  The nymph is brownish with pale foreparts and a curved pale band across the abdomen.

Found in open grassy areas, often but not always in sandy or calcareous situations.

Adult: June to October.
