Ditylenchus dipsaci
Ditylenchus dipsaci
Ditylenchus dipsaci is a plant pathogenic nematode that affects a large range of herbaceous species, sometimes causing galls. It is often recorded on onion and garlic; symptoms of infection include stunted growth, leaves with pale yellowish swellings, discoloration of bulbs, and swollen stems. Galls are formed on plantain, thistles and daffodils; on plantain, the galls are irregularly-shaped swellings, sometimes purplish; the leaf may also be distorted.
Photograph the gall or the affected part of the host plant. Note the host plant spercies in your comments. We recommend that your record is confirmed by an expert before submission to NatureSpot.
Ditylenchus dipsaci is a migratory endoparasite that has a five-stage lifecycle and the ability to enter into a dormancy stage. D. dipsaci enters through stomata or plant wounds and creates galls or malformations in plant growth.
