Desoria species are covered in fine setate but unlike other Isotomids have no few macrosetate. Desoria tigrina is a grey-brown species with a dosal stripe plus two lateral stripes. The long setae on abdomen 5 are taxonomically important - to distinguish between Desoria violacea and D. tigrina, in addition to colour, find the ratio of the longest seta on abd. 5 to the length of the segment.  For Desoria tigrina this ratio is <0.7, while Desoria violacea has longer seta with a ratio around 1.1.

- Long setae on Abd5 <0.7 length of Abd5

This species has a tendency towards human-impacted soils or habitats rich in organic matter.
