Demetrias atricapillus
Demetrias atricapillus
Length: 4.5 to 5.5 mm. Black head, red/orange pronotum and straw-coloured elytra with a dark central stripe that broadens apically. The head is punctured and hairy behind the eyes.
Other Demetrias species have more marked elytra.
The bi-lobed tarsal segment distinguishes from similar Paradromius linearis.
Found in tussocky grassland and agricultural fields.
Spring to autumn.
Feeds mainly on aphids.
Most British records seem to come from south of a line between Scarborough in Yorkshire and the Severn Estuary. In this area it is quite common. It appears to be more coastal in the west and in Wales.
Common in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 144 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
