4-5mm. Grey-black with a slight bluish reflection. Pronotum about as broad as the base of the elytra. Pubescence on the elytra are pale silvery grey. Legs are entirely black or with tibiae dark brown.

Dasytes plumbeous is similar but has a narrower pronotum, at least part of the legs are pale and the elytral hairs are golden.

The adults are often found visiting flowers.

Late spring and summer.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 24 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
