The larvae of the gall midge Dasineura dioicae cause galls to form on Common Nettle (Urtica dioica). The leaf margin becomes slightly thickened and curls loosely upwards. The galled leaves can be whitish or reddened. The gall contains a white, or yellowish white larva. 

The common Dasineura urticae also cause galls on nettle, but are pouches/swelling in midrib, leaf blade, petiole or flower-stalk

True status in Britain is difficult to determine due to lack of records.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
