Length 9-11mm. A rather delicate cranefly with a pale brown abdomen and thorax. It has a dark "saddle" on the thorax and a dark final segment to the abdomen. 

Wet woodland. 

Summer.

Larvae feed on the leaves of Marsh Marigold and violets. 

Common in the southern half of Britain, but less common further north.
