This is a minute scavenger beetle which is only 2 mm or less in length and has pitted brown elytra.

Although it probably develops in decaying plant matter, it can also often be beaten in great numbers from Hawthorn flowers etc.

All year round, but most frequent in late spring and summer.

Common and widespread in England and Wales, fewer records from Scotland.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 185 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
