The bright yellow-green fern-like shoots make this one of our more distinctive mosses. They are usually tri-pinnately branched and form mats 5 to 25 cm across.

Indicator Species - Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

It grows in woodland, hedge banks and in grassland in damp places.

All year round.

Widespread and common in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
