The adults are on the wing, in one or two generations, from May till August.

The larval foodplants are stitchwort and mouse-ear. The larvae feed on the seedpods, constructing a silken case which protrudes from successive pods as the larva grows.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland, the Sapcote record of 29th May 2011 is the first VC55 record for this species. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
