Wingspan 13 to16 mm.

Most likely to be seen in areas where the larval foodplants occur.

Adults emerge in July and August.

The eggs of this species are laid on the florets of goosefoot (Chenopodium) and orache (Atriplex). The larva makes a silken case, 6-7mm long when fully formed. Pupation occurs in the case on the ground.

Widespread but local in Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
