Wingspan about 12mm. A small Coleophorid, having a greyish appearance streaked with whitish-cream. Adults recorded to light or netted by day will need to be confirmed via dissection.

It occupies grassy habitats.

It flies in May and June.

The larva feeds on the seeds of Wood-rush (Luzula) species, forming a whitish or yellowish case.

The species is widely distributed and common in suitable habitats over most of the British Isles. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
