Wingspan around 11mm. One of several British species of Coleophora with bronzy metallic forewings and gen det is recommended for id purposes.

Grassy areas where Red Clover is present.

The adults fly during June and July and can be attracted to light.

Red Clover is the foodplant, the larva feeding on the developing seeds and building a case closely resembling a floret of the foodplant.

This species occurs commonly in parts of southern England. The species was only separated from C. frischella in 1976 and so the distribution detail is clouded. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
