Males 3 to 5 mm, females 3.5 to 6 mm - smaller than the other members of this family. Female carapace pale brown, male darker. Pale abdomen with a brown median band broken into 4 to 6 chevrons.

Typically in foliage and under tree bark. 

Adults of both sexes are found mainly in late spring and early summer, females occasionally throughout the year.

Common and widespread in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known, but the species is probably under recorded.
