Cap is initially convex then flattened with a shallow depressed centre that is often darker; cap grey brown becoming paler when drying, so often appearing zoned.  Gills and stem grey-brown.  There is little or no smell.  Spore print white.

other funnels. C ditopus smells strongly farinaceous and has very small spores.

This can be a difficult species to identify, and we recommend that a specimen is examined by an expert before submission to NatureSpot. Also photograph from top down, in side view and from underneath to show gills and full length of stipe.  Note habitat and substrate.
