Mature podetia without basal squamules, whitish to pale yellow-green or grey-green, hollow, thin-walled and brittle, seeming inflated, finely powdery on the inner surface. The stems branch into two or three parts and these in turn terminate in 2 to 6 small branches surrounding a central hole. The ultimate branch tips pink-brown.

Widespread in Britain, but mainly coastal in England.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
