A large species, 6.5 - 8.5mm (females larger), and variable in intensity of markings.  The basal part of the forewing, next to the pronotum, is usually brown, and there is usually a brown median band and other dark markings towards the wing apex.  The forewing veins have tubercles along them, but there are no tubercles between the veins along the apical margin part of the forewing.   The lower part of the the face (the postclypeus) is  yellowish and lighter than the upper part (the frons).

Tachycixius pilosus is smaller and has tubercles between wing veins at apex.  There are several other Cixius species; C cunicularis and C similis have been recorded in VC55 

Good quality photographs showing wing venation and patterns.  It is helpful to indicate size.

Deciduous trees and shrubs.

Adult: May to October.
