Length about 2.5 mm.  This genus comprises five very small and almost entirely black bugs with rather broad hind femora. Halticus species are similar, but have longer antennae (> body length). The 2nd antennal segment in Chlamydatus is < head width.  C. saltitans has shiny forewings which are black with a brown base and covered in pale hairs. Adults are always brachypterous in UK, the wings reaching mid-abdomen. The hairs on the hind tibia do not arise from large black spots.

Often found on sparsely vegetated ground, and particularly associated with clovers and other legumes.

Adult: June – September.

A widespread bug, though unobtrusive due to its size.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
