Length to 6 mm. A Corophid shrimp with a rather rounded body shape and enlarged second antennae, the second segment of which has a curved spike. The shape of the spike can be used to differentiate this species from the similar Corophium multisetosum.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used and describe the size and identifying characters.

Although may live in salt, brackish and fresh water habitats, Chelicorophium curvispinum is the species most likely to be found in inland freshwater bodies such as canals and slow moving rivers.

Quite widely recorded in England where it seems to be quite common.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
