Length ~3.5 mm.  Charogochilus species are small dark plant bugs which are covered in scale-like golden pubescence. The wing membrane is often strongly curved downward, and the tibial spines are very fine and pale.

The similar but very rare Charagochilus weberi is known from several southern woodland sites and is associated with Cow-wheat growing in shaded woods. Polymerus nigrita is also similar but the fine tibial spines and coarsely punctate pronotum distinguish C. gyllenhalii.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required, and the specimen should be examined with a microscope, or good quality lens. Found on bedstraws (Galium sp.) growing in open situations.

Adult: All year.

The new generation of adults appears from mid-summer onward and overwinters.

Charagochilus gyllenhalii is found widely across Britain.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
