Wingspan 11 to 13 mm.

The adults fly in June and July, when they can be attracted to light.

The larva feeds in spring internally in a needle of pine (Pinus sylvestris), working its way from the base to the tip. It may then feed externally in a slight web.

A widespread but local species occurring over much of England and Scotland. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland in areas where suitable habitat occurs.
