Wingspan 25-30 mm. Gets its English name from the fact that it is often found in company with Burnet Moths (Zygaena spp).

It inhabits open woodland, pastures, roadside verges and flower meadows.

May and June.

The larvae feed on Clover and Trefoil.

It is relatively common in the southern half of Britain, becoming scarcer further north. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
