Wingspan 32-40 mm. This moth is sexually dimorphic, the males having broader and squarer forewings than the female, and more feathery antennae.

It frequents woodland and a range of more open habitats.

Flies in June and July.

The larvae feed on a number of herbaceous plants, including Dock.

Quite common and distributed widely over the British Isles. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
