Wingspan 20-23 mm. A fairly easy species to identify, being one of only a few Pugs which are mainly black-and-white.

Dry pastures, suburban habitats and waste ground.

July and August.

It is widely distributed throughout England and Wales, but local in Ireland and Scotland. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
